From the Beginning
The story of Town & Country Gardens begins in 1945, right after World War II. Blaine Poulsen started a nursery in Idaho Falls called Snake River Nursery. For a town with fewer than 20,000 people, it was a remarkable garden center and quickly became a cornerstone of the community.
In 1963, Blaine sold the nursery and took a job with the Grounds Department at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. There, he spent the next 19 years working while also earning a degree in Ornamental Horticulture.

A New Chapter
In the spring of 1964, a husband and wife from Fallon, Nevada—Howard and LaRene Crook—purchased the nursery. With 20 years of experience in farming and running Lahontan Mill and Feed, they brought their hard work, business integrity, and love of plants to Idaho Falls. The nursery was eventually renamed Town & Country Gardens.
At the time, the store was a modest 20′ x 20′ concrete block building with two small greenhouses attached. But under the Crooks' care, the business steadily grew, offering more plants and gardening supplies to help local gardeners thrive.
Growth and Legacy
In 1983, Howard's son John Crook took over the business. Under his leadership, Town & Country Gardens continued to grow and earned a reputation as one of the premier garden centers in the region.

Then in 2021, after nearly 40 years, John and his wife, Diana, retired. Longtime friends and employees Rex and Heather Andersen purchased the business.
Rex, a native of Sugar City, has spent most of his adult life in the nursery business and has managed garden centers for over three decades. He joined Town & Country Gardens in 2006 and knew it was his forever home.
Rex also served on the Board of Directors for the Idaho Nursery & Landscape Association for 12 years. He and Heather are the proud parents of three amazing children. Now, at the helm of Town & Country Gardens, Rex and Heather are excited about the future and invite everyone to com and join in the "FUN".

What We Offer

Proud to be a Destination Garden Center
At Town & Country Gardens, we're proud to be a Proven Winners Destination Garden Center ® – which is just a fancy way of saying we're really picky about our plants (in the best way possible). We partnered with Proven Winners because their plants aren't just pretty faces—they're trialed, tested, and tougher than your in-laws at Thanksgiving. This designation means you'll always find top-performing annuals, perennials, and shrubs here, along with great advice and gorgeous displays to spark your green-thumb creativity.
